Namibia Photo Tour

Our Namibia Photo Tour is a perfect opportunity to discover the most amazing landscapes of Africa. The desert landscapes of Namibia bring us great photogenic opportunities to capture incredible photographs every day. Here we will find the world’s biggest dunes of red sand in the Namib desert and clean night skies. But also an extension to visit African tribes, wildlife in the Etosha National Park, and the famous locations at the Skeleton Coast. A perfect scenario for night photography sessions all around the country.

During our 14 days of this workshop, we also will capture endless fields of grass, mountains, and the ghost town of Kolmanskop. A complete experience to photograph the most iconic locations of the country like the Quiver Tree Forest or the Spitzkoppe area. And of course, the petrified trees of Deadvlei, a dream location for landscape photographers.

Our tour is designed to peak with the best moment to capture the Milky Way. This way, we will spend the nights capturing the clear Namibian skies. As during July, rains are not so often, we ensure to have most of the night’s clear skies to capture the stars.

A special tour designed by our photographer guides, together with an experienced local tour operator. Together with our photographer guides, will travel a team of local guides that will help you every moment to enjoy the landscapes of Namibia.

Itinerary Namibia Photo Tour

Day 1 Arrive in Windhoek, Namibia

We will be waiting for you at the Hosea Kutako airport. Here, will start our Namibia Photo Tour where our local guides will bring us to have a private diner. It will be a good moment during the dinner, to know us better and give you the first tips for the trip.

Located at the center of Namibia, Windhoek is the capital of the country. Here we can find a full variety of shops & entertainment venues. The city is safe, and thanks to the German colonial legacy the organization of the city will make it faster for us to take a photo walk for the participants that are interested.

Day 2 - 3 Quiver Tree Forest

After breakfast, we will start driving to the south on our way to Quiver Tree Forest. It will be our longest drive day on our trip, around 500km. Anyway, we will arrive with enough time to see for the first time the Quiver ¨trees¨ before sunset. These succulent plants, with their cracked golden-white bark, are a unique and perfect spot for landscape photography. But especially for night photography when we will be capturing the Milky Way in these spots.

Our accommodation for the next 2 nights, will be Quiver Tree Lodge. Located near the Quiver Tree Forest, will be a perfect base for our nearest excursions.

These 2 days we will have the full day to explore the area. The days will start early, so we will have enough time to find infinite compositions and analyze with our guides our next steps. From sunrise to late night, we will be able to capture the starry Namibian skies in this location. With our hotel located in the area, it will be faster for us to come back for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the middle of our sessions.

Days 4 - 6 Kolmanskop Ghost Village, Luderitz

Next morning, after a sunrise session in the Quiver Tree Forest, we will drive to our next destination: the coastal town of Luderitz. There we will sleep in our 4 stars hotel (The Luderitz Nest Hotel). Once we arrive, we will visit for the first time the nearest ghost village of Kolmanskop. This deserted mining town was one of the main points of the greatest diamond rushes in history.

The days will start as usual before sunrise. After a fast coffee, our local guides will bring us to the Ghost town, where we will be ready for the first rays of light. After that, we will come back to our hotel to have a well-deserved breakfast and have a short break. For those who want to improve their editing skills, will be a good opportunity for post-processing lessons.

At midday, we will come back to Kolmanskop. There we will be able to capture the light entering from the open roof slats, windows, and doors. Again, we will have time to rest and have lunch in our hotel before sunset. We will be enjoying the sand dunes around the town also, so even if we spend the whole day, we will help you to explore all the best compositions that we can make according to the existing light.

Days 7 - 10  Sossusvlei park

Today we will awake early for another sunrise session at Kolmanskop before heading to Sesriem. This town will be our base to visit the next days Sossusvlei in the Namib-Naukluft National Park. We will have our hotel at the entrance of the park, so our excursions will be a short drive to any location.

The landscape of Sossusvlei is unique in the world. The Namib desert with their characteristic red dunes, bring us a unique scenario to explore during the next 3 complete days. During these days we will visit the iconic locations of Deadvlei or the Dunes 45 & 47 for example.

We will be visiting during all the best moments of light, as it’s sunrise & sunset. It’s not been allowed entry to Deadvlei during the night since some years ago. We will help you with the composition if you want to get these shoots.

Also, we offer you the possibility to capture from the sky (not included in the price) with a helicopter flight over Sossusvlei park. If you want this option, contact us as it can take only 3 passengers and we will manage the schedule for you.

Day 11 - 12 Spitzkoppe area

Namibia is a land of contrasts. Today we will move from the desert to the Spitzkoppe area, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn and traversing the Gaub and Kuiseb passes. There we will walk through the Kuiseb Canyon, offering us spectacular views of this desert. We will travel through Namib Naukluft Park. Later in the afternoon, we will arrive at our lodge and then visit the Spitzkoppe in the afternoon close to the bridge (arch).

At night we will have time for night photography in this spectacular landscape.

On day 12, we will spend the full day exploring the area with long sessions in the most iconic locations of Spitzkoppe.

Day 13 Windhoek

We will enjoy our last sunrise in Spitzkoppe. After that, we will have breakfast and start driving back to the capital.

On our return, we will stop by the small town of Okahandja. Here we will visit the biggest craft market in Namibia. The stalls are operated on a cooperative basis by the local community and the market is a good place to do last-minute shopping for truly African souvenirs.

We will finish our tour arriving at Windhoek. Our last hotel in the capital is a luxury hotel, so we can rest in the hotel after our long trip. If you prefer to visit again the capital, we will make you a photo walk again to capture the iconic locations.

Day 14 End of the Tour / Start of the Extension: Himba Tribe

After breakfast, we will bring you to the airport where will finish our Namibia Photo Tour.

If you want to join our extension, we will continue towards the Etosha National Park passing by Kamanjab. Before arriving, we will have time to visit the Himba Tribe in the Otjikandero Himba Orphanage Village. The Himba are one of the last tribes in Africa living strictly within their tradition. We will have the opportunity to see them in their natural environment as well as observe their culture and gain an in-depth insight into their traditional way of life.

After our photo session, we will continue the road arriving at our lodge at the south gate of Etosha. According to the time of arrival, we can do an afternoon game drive inside the park.

Our hotel is just outside the park at a private lodge. Etosha Safari Lodge is set on a hillock overlooking sprawling mopane woodland. From our rooms, we will have our own private panoramic views. But also, the common areas will let us rest in the spacious areas and the three swimming pools.

Day 15-16 Etosha National Park

The next two days we will visit this famous national park. There we can see a large variety of mammal, bird, and reptile species on the salt pans and viewpoints. From the most iconic and larger mammals like lions, elephants, leopards, or giraffes. But also cheetah, hyena, springbok, zebra, and eland.

We will visit different viewpoints in the waterholes, where we will stop to enjoy the views of the Etosha Pan. This extensive area is also known as a “place of dry water” will offer us a unique experience. We will have lunch at Halali, before returning to our lodge after sunset.

Day 17-18 Damaraland

We will visit the area looking for rhinos and landscapes in one of the most spectacular deserts of the world.

Day 19 Skeleton Coast

Today we will proceed towards the Skeleton Coast where we will stay 1 night at the Cape cross lodge. During the day we will continue up the skeleton coast exploring the area, including Walvis Bay.

Also, we will have the possibility to capture the Cape fur seal. The biggest of the nine fur seal species in the world, a breed that live only on the west coast of southern Africa. We will have a sunset stop at the Zeila Shipwreck after we have explored the skeleton coast.

Day 20 Windhoek

After a sunrise session on Swakopmund, we will start driving back to Windhoek. We will arrive in the afternoon and will have time for some reviews and edition classrooms.

Day 21 End of the Extension

It will be time to pack our things and drive to the airport where will finish our extension of this Namibia Photography Tour.

Couple Traveller

My wife and myself joined the 15-day Namibia Photo Tour (Aug 03 – Aug 17, 2021). It covers the popular photo spot in Namibia including Quiver Tree Forest, Kolmanskop, Luderitz, Sossusvlei Park, Spitzkoppe, Skeleton Coast and Etosha National Park. The Milky Way shooting in Quiver Tree Forest and Spitzkoppe are good experiences, and we got sufficient time to explore the deserted houses in Kolmanskop to catch different lighting scenarios. Eduardo is kind enough to share experience and give valuable advice on photo techniques and composition during the tour.

We recommend the tour to anyone interested in capturing the beauty of Namibia.

I have made the trip to my favorite country: Namibia. With the company photoworldtours.com with Eduardo. Things are simplified and you access all the dreamed points to photograph, showing the best spots, strategies, etc. that make the situation easy to photograph and fill your card in the camera. Also, the international group atmosphere is created with laughter, anecdotes, and friendships that it generates. Come on, I repeat if they let us to Vietnam, Japan, etc …
