The Scottish Highlands photo tour is the perfect travel to photograph the most amazing landscapes of Scotland. In these 10 days, we will visit the amazing landscapes of the British north, photographing magical views, cliffs, castles and lakes. We will enter the Isle of Skye to photograph its incredible landscapes and enjoy the most spectacular nature in the British Isles. In addition, we offer you an optional 2-night extension in Edinburgh, where we will have the opportunity to photograph this beautiful medieval city, with its spectacular monuments and neoclassical buildings.
On this tour, we will have the opportunity to enjoy various types of photography, from landscape photography (including the seascapes of the Isle of Skye), to architecture and urban photography, through night photography, travel photography and even the portrait.
As in the rest of our photo tours, we will spend most of each day photographing several of the most spectacular points of each destination, but always paying special attention to the best hours of light, sunrises and sunsets, where we will go to the most ideal locations to obtain the best possible images. For this reason, we will get up early every day during our stay and, in the same way, we will return late to our hotels, even doing night photography sessions on some of the days, especially on the Isle of Skye.
Edinburgh Airport, Scotland
We will meet at Edinburgh Airport, where will start our Scottish Highlands Photo Tour. From here we will depart for our first destination on the way to Dalmally. Depending on the arrival time, we will spend the afternoon in the Loch Lomond National Park, where we will enjoy its lakes and forests during sunset. At the end of our first session we will arrive at our hotel in Dalmally and rest after the trip.
We will get up early for our first sunrise at the nearby Kilchurn Castle on Lake Awe. We will photograph the first lights of the day, with views of the castle reflected in the lake and the hills that surround the place.
Once our session is over, we will approach to Stalker Castle. Surrounded by an incredible nature in Loch Laich lake, it also served as the setting for another mythical movie of the Monty Python, and that at sunset will offer us spectacular and mythical views of Scotland.
Before sunset we will head towards to Glencoe to visit the incredible landscapes around the Buachaille mountain that served as the setting for the James Bond Skyfall movie. Throughout the afternoon, we will photograph the waterfalls of Etive Mor, The meeting of the Three Waters, Glencoe or Steall.
After this full day, we will return to Glencoe to rest and recharge our batteries for the following day.
After photographing the sunrise, in the nearby Etive Mor waterfalls, we will head north, on a day trip to the Isle of Skye, our next destination.
Halfway there, we will stop at another famous location in film history, such as the Glenfinnan Viaduct, known as the Harry Potter Train. We will arrive with enough time to be prepared, when the famous steam train runs through this viaduct and we can photograph it in its path.
In the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to photograph the possibly most famous castle in the Highlands, Eilean Donan Castle. Located in Alsh Lake and also famous for appearing in movies like Braveheart or The Immortals among others. We will photograph the surroundings of the castle, enjoying the last lights of the day and enjoying the lighting that at night will offer us spectacular views of this incredible castle. Once our session is over, we will arrive at our hotel in Erbusaig.
Today we will return to the Eilean Donan castle to capture the sunrise from. After that, we will go to the Isle of Skye, in search of our base for the next few days, the town of Portree.
During our journey, we will make several stops to photograph spectacular locations on the Strathaird peninsula, from the Spar cave to the spectacular beaches of Elgol, where we will wait for the sunset where we will enjoy incredible views.
Once our session is over, we will arrive in Portree to rest and settle in what will be our accommodation for the next 4 nights.
Today, we will photograph the famous The Old Man of Storr. We will get up early to reach this iconic location before the first lights illuminate the landscape. From that area we will be able to photograph spectacular mountains and the cliffs of the Scottish highlands, in an environment surrounded by nature and dream views.
For sunset, we will go to the Valley of the Fairies or Fairy Glen, where we can photograph its small rounded hills and rocky ridges, all covered by green grass and some trees molded by the wind that offer us enormous photographic possibilities. This allows each visit to it to be different, but always equally fruitful.
After getting up early again, we will go to the Fairy Pools to photograph the sunrise. The natural spectacle that this location offers us will allow us to capture incredible photographs of its waterfalls and natural pools, at the foot of the Cuillin mountains. We will walk the trail calmly throughout the morning in order to enjoy these impressive landscapes and make the most of the countless locations and compositions that its waterfalls will offer us.
After our Fairy Pools tour is complete, we head north to the Isle of Skye for what is arguably the most famous location in the Scottish Highlands – the Neist Cliff Lookout. From the same viewpoint at the foot of the road, we will have before us incredible views of the cliffs with the famous lighthouse at the bottom of the peninsula. Depending on the time we have, we can enter the path that leads to the lighthouse, or enjoy what will be the best location for our session from the same viewpoint.
During our last full day on the Isle of Skye, we will visit the Kilt Rock cliffs and the impressive 55 meter high Meat waterfall. Here we will enjoy the sunrise with these incredible views before continuing our route to the north of the island. In the Quiraing area we will spend the whole day, hiking through its landscapes and visiting places like The Needle, The Table or The Prison. During our excursion we will photograph these magical undulating landscapes, lakes and rock formations that make Quiraing a unique place.
After breakfast, we will start our route to the south.
Along the way we will have the opportunity to photograph waterfalls such as Ploda Falls, a spectacular 40 meter waterfall, surrounded by the lush forests of Douglas Fir. Following our way to the south, and near Glencoe, we will be able to make another excursion to visit another of the waterfalls that we did not have time to visit on our outward journey, such as the Steall waterfalls.
We will photograph the sunset next to the beautiful Etive Mor waterfall, which we already had the opportunity to photograph, with the Buachaille mountain in the background.
We will have a night at Glencoe, which will be our last night in the Scottish highlands.
On this last day of the trip, we will head straight for Edinburgh to be able to visit its medieval streets and neoclassical buildings in stride.
After spending the day on its streets and enjoying the countless photographic possibilities that the city offers, we will visit Calton Hill, from where we can enjoy the sunset with views of its famous castle and cathedral.
