Canadian Rockies Photo Tour

Our Canadian Rockies Photo Tour is an opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful places in the world to photograph. Where nature and wildlife are most spectacular and which are the most beautiful landscapes. Everyone will have their own, but if you visit the Canadian Rocky Mountains you will include them among your “top” destinations. We are sure of that too.

In western Canada, about eight hours’ drive from Vancouver and only one from Calgary, lies the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Divided between the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. Here, Canada’s Rocky Mountains Park has declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. Is composed of four National Parks: Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, and Yoho; and three provincial parks: Hamber, Mount Robson, and Mount Assiniboine. Mountains, rivers, waterfalls, forests, glaciers, and enormous biodiversity await you in them.

The Rocky Mountains are home to an array of wildlife, including elk, deer, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, grizzly bears, and black bears. The area is also home to many species of birds, such as eagles, hawks, and owls. The Canadian Rockies are a popular destination for hikers, climbers, and skiers from all over the world.

In this Photography Tour, we will visit some of the most beautiful places in the Canadian Rockies. It includes Lake Louise, Jasper National Park, and Banff National Park. We will also visit some of the smaller towns and villages in the Canadian Rockies, such as Canmore and Banff. This is an amazing opportunity to see some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world and photograph it with your own camera.

For us, the work in the field is very important, and of course, you will have continuous advice. But it is also very important, the computer editing of the photos you take during the trip. So, we will dedicate part of the trip to processing some of the photos. In this way, you will be able to take photos back home that will be the envy of anyone who sees them.

Itinerary of the Rocky Mountains Photography Tour

Day 1 Arrive in Calgary

Our Canadian Rockies photographic trip will start at the Calgary airport, where we will be waiting to pick you up. Once everyone in the group is assembled, we will depart for Banff, which is just over two hours from the airport.

Depending on the time of arrival, we will go directly to the Three Sisters, to capture the last lights of the day. If the aurora forecast is good, we will go to photograph the green lady in one of the best places at night.

Day 2 Vermillion & Minewanka lakes

As good photographers that we are, we will get up early to head to Vermillion lakes, where we will photograph the sunrise. We will walk around the lakes to enjoy the best framing and scenery.

Once our morning shooting is over, we will head to the most famous lakes such as Minewanka. There we will enjoy the morning and recharge batteries, we will also visit Johnston Canyon where we will enjoy a unique landscape.

In the afternoon we will study the forecast and decide where to make our sunset. Of course, we will see the possibility of auroras in the area.

Day 3 Morant's Curve - Lake Louise

We will start the day with a sunrise at Morant’s Curve where we will photograph the iconic TransCanada train. After sunrise, we will pick up our bags and head to the Lake Louise area where we will spend the next three nights. This will be the epicenter of our trip. Highlighting the methane bubbles at Abraham Lake and the beautiful mountains and glacial lakes.

We will also visit Bow Lake, Emerald Lake, Peyto Lake and Castle Mountain, among other places. Once we have left our bags at our hotel, we will head to Lake Louise. Once there we will explore the beauty of its surroundings and enjoy the sunset. We will enjoy the surroundings and look for the best frames.

Day 4 Morain Lake

If the road conditions allow it, we will go to Moraine Lake. At this time of the year, we can find a lot of snow, making the landscape a delight to photograph. But this also brings the possibility of finding closed roads, so we will have to improvise and acclimatize to the conditions. But there is no need to worry, as our guides know the area perfectly and know what is the best thing to do.

Day 5 Louise Lake

Today we will do the sunrise at Louise Lake. After sunrise we will head to Herbert Lake. Also we will visit Peyto Lake and Bow Lake where we will finish the day and do night hikes.

Day 6 Emerald Lake

This morning we will head to Emerald Lake where we will do the sunrise. After Emerald we will head to Natural Bridge, where we will photograph its wonderful waterfalls and if conditions permit. We will go down to the river bank in search of ice formations for abstract photography. Afterwards we will return to the hotel and after check-out we will head to Jasper enjoying the Icefield Parkway and all the hidden corners. Making a stop along the way, such as the Saskatchewan Pass or the famous views of the mountain of Nigel Peak.

Day 7 Athabasca Falls - Maligne Lake

From the town of Jasper, we will head for sunrise at Athabasca Falls. Not only will we do the typical waterfall photography, but we will enjoy the morning looking for new locations in the area. In the afternoon we will head to Maligne Lake for a sunset in one of the most natural of the entire trip. There we will have a high chance of seeing wild animals.

Day 8 Patricia Lake - Sunwapta Falls

This day we will head to Patricia Lake and Edith Lake, where we will do sunrise. In the afternoon we will sunset at Sunwapta Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area.

Day 9 Icefield Parkway

We will get up early and take the Icefield Parkway to Tangle Peak, where we will do our sunrise. On the way back to the hotel we will stop at a magical place that if the snow conditions allow it. We will enjoy an incredible environment, giving us the chance to photograph some beautiful formations.

Day 10 Calgary - End of the trip

Last day of our trip, if this comes to an end. But of course, we will make the sunrise in the area of Canmore. Then we will take our bags to head to the Calgary airport.

Jabi Sanz

Co Founder - Photographer

I have been fascinated by the possibilities of photography since my trip to Iceland in Aug 2017. I grew up in Pamplona, a small city in the North of Spain. My parents always used to take me to explore nature, not far from my city. We have the incredible Pyrenees just an hour from home. But I never had a camera or a passion for photography till that trip to Iceland, where I bought my current camera. That country blew my mind and now I can’t live without photography. I think photography makes me connect to nature different from what I have ever experienced before. Nature is my inspiration, with all the beauty, variety of colors, sounds and compositions. Nature has made me travel and get to know places that I didn’t think before I would go.
