In these 9 days, we will visit the wilderness landscapes of North Britain, photographing magical coast views, sea cliffs, castles, and lakes. We will enter the Isle of Skye to photograph its incredible landscapes and enjoy the most spectacular nature in the United Kingdom. For sure, this Scotland trip is one of the best tours you can join in Europe.

This workshop in Scotland is a magnificent opportunity to visit the best castles of the UK and coastal landscapes. With a really small group, comfortable rooms, and transportation. We will visit landscape highlights spots and some other hidden gems like Glencoe with the Etive Mor Falls with Buachaille mountain in the background. But also scenes of the Isle of Skye: Elgol, The Old Man of Storr, Neist Cliff Lighthouse, Fairy Pools, Kilt Rock, or Quiraing.

Our planning also includes the famous British castles like Eilean Donan, Kilchurn, or Stalker castles. In addition, we will stop in some other cultural points like the Hogwarts Express in Glenfinnan.

Itinerary of the Scotland Photography Tour

Day 1: Arrive in Edinburgh

We will start at Edinburgh Airport, where all people will meet & start our adventure around the country. From here we will depart for our first destination on the way to Glenco with our private vehicle.

Depending on the arrival time, we will do our first sunset at Glencoe. A scene to enjoy its rivers and mountains during sunset. At the end of our first session, we will arrive at our hotel in the area and rest after the trip.

We will have a meeting during this day, so we can know all our guest’s styles and photography skills. This way, we will fit our tuition classes next days individually. Also, we will give you all the necessary info and answer all safety doubts.

Day 2 Glencoe: Kilchurn Castle & Etive Mor

We will get up early for our first sunrise at the nearby Kilchurn Castle on Lake Awe. We will photograph the first lights of the day, with views of the castle reflected in the lake.

Once our session is over, we will approach another UK castle like Stalker Castle. Surrounded by incredible nature in Loch Laich, it also served as the setting for another mythical movie of Monty Python. After that, we will have lunch in the area.

Before dusk, we will head towards Glencoe to visit the stunning landscapes around Glen Etive and the Buachaille mountain. These locations served as the setting for the James Bond Skyfall movie. Throughout the afternoon, we will photograph the Falls of Etive Mor, the meeting of the Three Waters, Glen Coe, or Steall.

After this full day, we will return to our hotel to rest in the nearest village and recharge our batteries for the following day.

Day 3 Glenfinnan Viaduct – Eilean Donan Castle

After photographing the sunrise, in the nearby Etive Mor waterfalls, we will head north. Today will be a road trip to the Isle of Skye, our next destination.

Halfway there, we will stop at another famous location in film history, such as the Glenfinnan Viaduct, known as the Hogwarts Express. We will arrive with enough time when the famous steam train runs through this viaduct, and we can photograph it in its path. So we will have time for choosing a good composition. Once we finish, we will have lunch and continue our road trip.

In the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to photograph the possibly most famous castle in the Highlands, Eilean Donan Castle. Located on an island on Alsh Lake and also famous for appearing in movies like Braveheart or The Immortals among others.

We will photograph the surroundings of the castle, enjoying the last lights of the day from the coast at dusk. Also, the castle during the night will offer us their illumination, so we can enjoy the environment even more. Once our session is over, we will arrive at our hotel in Erbusaig.

Day 4 Isle of Skye: Elgol – Portree

Today, we will return to Eilean Donan Castle to capture the sunrise. After that, we will go to the Isle of Skye, in search of our base for the next few days, the town of Portree.

During our journey, we will make several stops to photograph the highland cattle on the Strathaird peninsula and have lunch at Portree before check-in. For sunset, we will visit the spectacular beach of Elgol with these incredible views and infinite compositions.

Once our session is over, we will arrive at the village of Portree. In this village will be our accommodation for the next 4 nights. According to the weather, we can change the planning and do our tuition lessons.

Day 5 Isle of Skye: The Old Man of Storr

Today, we will photograph the famous Old Man of Storr. We will get up early to reach this iconic location before the first lights illuminate the sky. From that area, we will be able to photograph spectacular mountains and the cliffs of the Scottish Highlands.

This activity requires a minimum level of fitness skills. You do not need to have experience hiking, as there is a path. But if you have some health problems, please write to us during the booking process. Today, we will have some snacks for lunch in this environment.

For sunset, we will go to the Valley of the Fairies or Fairy Glen. This area is perfect for photographing its small, rounded hills and rocky ridges. Covered by green grass and some trees molded by the wind, that offers us enormous photographic possibilities. This allows each visit to it to be different, but always equally fruitful.

At night, we will come back to our lodge in Portree to rest in our rooms.

Day 6 Isle of Skye: Neist Cliff viewpoint

After getting up early again, we will go to the Fairy Pools to photograph the sunrise. The natural spectacle of its waterfalls and natural pools, at the foot of the Cuillin mountains, is a perfect photography destination.

We will walk the trail calmly throughout the morning. This way, we will spend time enough to enjoy these impressive landscapes. This area has countless photo opportunities and compositions with its waterfalls and mountains.

After our Fairy Pools tour is complete, we head north to the Isle of Skye. We will arrive at what is the most famous location in the Scottish Highlands: the Neist Cliff Lookout. Like the previous day, we will have some snacks for lunch before arriving at its sea cliffs.

From the same viewpoint, we will have incredible views of the cliffs with the lighthouse at the bottom of the peninsula. Depending on the time we have, we can enter the path that leads to the Neist Point lighthouse. Anyway, we will be shooting what will be the best location for our session from the same viewpoint to the coast.

Day 7 Isle of Skye: Quiraing

During our last full day on the Isle of Skye, we will visit the Quiraing. Here we will enjoy the sunrise with these incredible views before start hiking in the area.

In the Quiraing area, we will spend the whole day. Hiking through its landscapes and visiting places like The Needle, The Table, or The Prison. During our excursion, we will photograph these magical undulating environments, lakes, and rock formations that make Quiraing a unique destination.

According to the weather and conditions, we will photograph the sunset in some coastal scenes close to The Quiraing.

This day, we will make an overview of the photos taken during the trip to our lodge. It will our last overnight in the Isle of Skye, so we can process some images this night. We will teach you all our techniques, so it can help you to improve your skills.

Day 8 Callander

After breakfast, we will start our route to the south, leaving the island.

Along the way, we will stop in Loch Ness for lunch. There we will walk around the famous lake and try to spot Nessie…

Following our way to the south, we will stop back in Glencoe. There we will be able to photograph some of the spots we visited at the start of the tour in case the weather was not good enough. Also, we can have a chance to photograph this beautiful valley from other perspectives.

We will do an overnight at Callander, which will be our last night in the Scottish highlands.

Day 9 Edinburgh – End of the trip

Today ends our photography trip at Edinburgh International Airport. It will be the moment to tell the group goodbye and wish you a good flight!

Edward Tomazic

The Scotland Highlands photo tour organised by PhotoWorldTours was fantastic. The small group made the experience more personal with the establishment of many new friendships.
Organisationally, it covered the most iconic landscape photo spots in the Highlands, sometimes requiring early departures from our hotels – of which were well chosen.
Highly recommended.

Damien Olmeda

Went on a tour of Scotland and it was one of the most memorable trips I’ve ever had. Eduardo was the perfect guide and he was completely accommodating and always looked out for everyone in the group. He was dedicated to getting us to the right locations and allowed plenty of time for us to get the shots we wanted. He even had some great suggestions on composition. Eduardo was not only a great guide but an overall great guy. It was like being on tour with a buddy. Not only did he drive everywhere but he provided the soundtrack in the car. In the end I wanted to continue my adventures with Eduardo but unfortunately reality called and I had to head back. I absolutely recommend Photo World Tours and look forward to one day meeting up with Eduardo and his team and continuing our photography adventures. Lots of great memories made with everyone. Thank you Photo World Tours and Eduardo for an incredible trip!

For casual travelers, the best time to visit the Scottish Highlands is during summer. Although the temperatures are not very high, as it’s located in the north, from June to August you will find the best weather. For photographers, the best season it’s during autumn. As you not will find crows of tourists and the landscapes are much more beautiful.

Big deforestation happened hundreds of years ago. Nowadays, without human help, nature can’t repopulate itself. The ground isn’t good enough for it. In this area, the peat from the forests that once covered the land is still burning. The inhabitants cut down the forests of northern Scotland to create large areas of cattle.

The weather in the Isle of Skye can be cold with wind and wet days, but usually, the temperatures are not so down to freeze. So snow in the Isle of Skye is very rare and snowing usually is only at the top of the hills.
